Hi! Thank you for visiting Studios for Wholeness! I'm Brenda Lynn, the creator of Studios for Wholeness. I'm just an ordinary common sense woman (with 3 beautiful children and 6 beautiful grandchildren), who started researching healthy and nontoxic ways to get better after being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. I wanted as few medications as possible, and didn't want to be on antibiotics fighting a virus all the time. After feeling terrible and having one chronic viral illness after another, I surly needed to find ways improve the quality of my life. Healthy food and less medicine was the best answer for me. Another of the best answers is my doctor, who fully supports my desire to heal with healthy food. When I eat good, I feel good! I've always been interested in healthy ways of living... long before the big diagnosis, however, I got got very focused on it since. Now I have a passion to share what I've learned, and give others what has benefited me.
Where it all began...
It was the fall of 1985, in of all places Fargo, North Dakota. I was barely out of high school when sitting in one of the back rows of a lecture being given by Dr. Norma Munson. She was promoting a product line and talking about the importance of vitamins and minerals, something we all knew was important. Suddenly, she shocked the audience with facts about margarine, tap water, and many other toxins in our environment. She was even telling us to eat butter! I thought she must be crazy, maybe even some kind of heretic... trying to scare us all into buying these products. Regardless of what I thought, it just felt like truth. Others I attended with insisted… she was in fact, very right. From that point on I’ve always had an interest in health and wellness.
Back then little bottles of water were not common, and any words suggesting margarine and shortening weren’t good for you were considered lunacy by most. There were very few in the know. I grew up in the country on well water. City water always tasted strange to me and my friends from the city would say my water tasted strange to them. To me the difference in the taste of city water and well water was as obvious as the difference in the taste of a banana and an onion. So obvious there shouldn’t be a debate about it, but there was. There had to be something in the city water, I was sure of it.
So, as time went on I avoided margarine, city tap water, and other things along the way I learned weren’t good for my body. As more and more information came out about our food, I eliminated or added things. I learned more about supplements, herbs, the healing properties of certain foods… all kinds of good stuff. I still have books and reference books collected from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Although my healthy eating and supplements were pretty inconsistent, I was pretty healthy as far as I knew.
Where it went...
In 1992 I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue, and some kind of overactive nervous system which was causing migraines and my entire body to hurt in a very strange way. I became sensitive to certain kinds of lighting, sound, and stress. We now know this condition as fibromyalgia, but back then my doctor didn't have a name for it, or even a proper way to diagnose it. He tapped areas of my back and judged by the way my body physically jumped when he did. There were no real answers… just muscle relaxers and pain killers. My doctor said he was seeing this new mysterious condition in women over and over for those past few years by the dozens per month. I was a hard working single parent with 2 kids. He did suggest avoiding stress and eating higher quality (expensive) food. Avoid stress? Expensive food? What? I was on a rigid budget. Needless to say, there were LOTS of muscle relaxers! Because my insurance paid for it. This was one time in my life I’d like to do-over and follow my doctors suggestions.
In 1999 I had my third child, a total abdominal hysterectomy, and was diagnosed with hypothyroid. WHAM! My life was forever changed.
I did well with synthetic thyroid hormones until 2006. At that time I started to feel bad more than good and my thyroid levels were crashing two to three times per year, taking months to regulate and stabilize. It felt like something more than hypothyroid was going on with me. Finally in 2014 after years of resisting my doctor’s insistence (I didn’t want the diagnosis), I let her test me for the autoimmune disorder, Hashimoto’s. As I suspected, it came out positive, and on a pretty high end of positive. After everything I learned and integrated, how could any of this be? Simple… I didn’t REALLY know what I was eating until about 2005 and on. Plus, so much has come out in the last 5 years… I didn’t have a clue. Not many of us did. At the time of my diagnosis, my medication was changed to natural thyroid hormone. It worked much better than the synthetic, especially as I changed my diet. WHEN MY DIET IS CLEAN, MY MEDICATION WORKS.
In 1999 I started researching health and wellness much more thoroughly than I did from 1985. I ramped it up again in 2005, and in the last 5 years researching wellness and wholeness has become part of my daily life. The Internet has truly been a Godsend for great information. We now have access to official research, academic papers, medical journals, and loads personal experiences through blog sites. The Internet has been a fantastic platform to exercise our freedom of speech without the filters of mainstream media and big pharma advertising . Anyone can report and sell whatever they want, and we can do deep research to see if it’s true or helpful.
So, I’ve learned a lot about what makes us sick and gives a general feeling of pervasive un-wellness. I've also learned a lot about what makes us well and more energized. The Internet has exploded especially in the last 5 years with information about toxins in our air, food, environment, and water. Since changing my diet I’ve detoxed and my health is better… MUCH BETTER!
I just want to share the health teas, drinks, kefir, and foods that have helped me heal with anyone who wants it. Studios for Wholeness is giving me the perfect platform to do that. Since we're mobile, little bits of wellness can be sprinkled anywhere. We're on a super tight shoestring budget with no investors and having a lot of fun in the process! I look forward to meeting you in your community very soon!
Note: Studios For Wholeness, LLC is not affiliated with any specific product line or supplemental multilevel marketing group. Most of what we sell are blends we make from single ingredients. We may have recommendations or sell other products from time to time, however there is not product line per se.
